BYD Prepares To Launch Atto 2 Electric SUV In India As Creta EV Competitor

Chinese EV giant BYD is gearing up to launch its much-anticipated Atto 2 electric SUV in India, aiming straight at rivals like the upcoming Hyundai Creta EV, Tata Curvv EV, and Maruti eVitara. Recently spotted testing on Indian roads, the Atto 2 reveals a stylish design with LED lighting, sporty alloy wheels, a rear spoiler, and rugged body cladding. Dimensionally, it measures about 4.31 m in length with a 2.62 m wheelbase, placing it firmly in the popular compact SUV category.

Inside, the Atto 2 promises a premium experience with a 15.6-inch rotatable touchscreen, an 8.8-inch digital cluster, ventilated seats, wireless charging, ambient lighting, and a panoramic sunroof. Practicality is also a highlight, with 400 liters of boot space expandable to 1,340 liters. On the safety front, BYD is equipping the SUV with Level-2 ADAS, including radars, ultrasonic sensors, and cameras, ensuring it keeps up with the competition in tech and safety.

Powering the Atto 2 is a 45.1 kWh Blade Battery paired with a ~175 hp motor delivering 290 Nm torque. The SUV offers an estimated 380 km range (NEDC), accelerates from 0–100 km/h in just 7.9 seconds, and supports 65 kW fast charging, topping up from 30% to 80% in under 30 minutes. Built on BYD’s advanced e-Platform 3.0, it combines efficiency, performance, and safety in a package aimed at India’s fast-growing EV market.

Expected to launch between late 2025 and mid-2026, the BYD Atto 2 will be positioned as an “affordable premium” EV, with prices likely in the ₹18–25 lakh range. With strong rivals like the Hyundai Creta EV, MG ZS EV, Tata Harrier.ev, and Mahindra XEV 9e entering the same space, BYD’s Atto 2 will play a crucial role in strengthening the brand’s foothold in India and making electric SUVs more accessible to a wider audience.
