The Mahindra Thar remains one of India’s most iconic SUVs. Buyers love it for its rugged design and strong off-road capability. Now, Mahindra is preparing to launch the updated Thar in September 2025. The new model will bring fresh design changes and modern features. Moreover, the company will focus on improving comfort and convenience for urban users. At the same time, it will retain the Thar’s core off-road character.
Bold New Design Inspired by Thar Roxx
Mahindra will give the Thar facelift a more aggressive look. The front will feature a double-stacked grille and LED projector headlamps. It will also get C-shaped DRLs and a redesigned bumper. At the rear, the SUV may get new alloy wheels and updated LED tail lamps. However, the overall shape will remain unchanged. As a result, the Thar will keep its rugged identity while looking more premium.
Premium Cabin and New Features
Inside, Mahindra will upgrade the cabin with modern features. The SUV will get a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. It will run on the AdrenoX software and support wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Moreover, it may offer a flat-bottom steering wheel, ventilated front seats, and wireless charging. A fully digital instrument cluster is also expected.
In addition, higher variants could get ambient lighting and a 360-degree camera. However, ADAS is unlikely at this stage.
Engine and Performance
Mahindra will not change the engine options. The Thar facelift will continue with the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol and 2.2-litre diesel engines. It will also offer the 1.5-litre diesel option. Buyers will get both manual and automatic gearbox options. In addition, RWD and 4WD variants will remain available. As a result, the SUV will stay capable for both city use and off-road driving.
Reports also suggest that Mahindra may offer only hard-top versions. The company could discontinue the soft-top model.
Expected Price and Launch Timeline
The Thar facelift may be priced between ₹12 lakh and ₹18 lakh (ex-showroom). Mahindra is likely to unveil it in September 2025. Bookings may open soon after the launch. Deliveries could begin from October 2025.
Overall, the updated Thar will combine modern features with its strong off-road character. It will target both enthusiasts and new buyers.
