Mumbai, 15 July 2025 Tesla Inc. plans to open its first showroom in India tomorrow in Mumbai, marking a historic step that will officially herald the company’s entry into the Indian market and a major change in the electric vehicle (EV) landscape of the nation.
The Launch That Signals Change
The first Tesla showroom is more than 4000 square feet in size and is well situated in Mumbai’s Bandra-Kurla Complex (BKC) to provide a fully immersive brand experience. The announcement follows months of conjecture, discussions at the highest levels of government, and a recent reduction in EV import taxes by the Indian government, which is generally interpreted as a positive indication of Elon Musk’s plans for the subcontinent.
What to Expect Inside
The Mumbai showroom will feature:
- Display models of Tesla’s top-selling vehicles including the Model 3, Model Y, and Model S
- A test drive zone
- Interactive product demos via digital displays
- Dedicated sections for charging solutions and accessories
- Booking & consultation desks with Tesla experts
In order to make Tesla vehicles available to customers throughout India, the company has also announced that online reservations will open in the country at the same time as the showroom opens.
A Strategic Move
Tesla’s arrival appears to increase competitiveness in India, one of the EV markets with the quickest rate of growth in the world. The timing of this launch is ideal given the rising cost of fuel, good government subsidies, and increased environmental awareness.
Industry experts believe that Tesla made a calculated decision through opening its first store and service location in Mumbai, which will enable the business to:
- Tap into a large, urban, tech-savvy consumer base
- Use Mumbai as a springboard for expansion into other metros
- Establish a stronger policy presence in India
Future Plans
Sources indicate that Tesla plans to open additional showrooms in Delhi, Bengaluru, and Hyderabad over the next 12 months. A potential Gigafactory setup is also under discussion, with Maharashtra and Gujarat being considered as probable locations.
