Yamaha Motor India has officially entered the electric two-wheeler segment with the launch of the EC-06 electric scooter, priced at ₹1.68 lakh (ex-showroom). This marks a significant step for the Japanese manufacturer as it expands its portfolio beyond internal combustion engine models in the Indian market. The EC-06 will initially be available in select cities through Yamaha’s Blue Square dealerships.

The Yamaha EC-06 is powered by a 4 kWh lithium-ion battery paired with an IPMSM electric motor, delivering a peak output of around 6.7 kW and 26 Nm of torque. The scooter offers a claimed range of up to 169 km on a single charge, making it suitable for urban commuting. Yamaha claims a top speed of approximately 79 km/h, while charging the battery using a standard home socket takes about eight hours.
In terms of features, the EC-06 comes equipped with three riding modes – Eco, Standard, and Power, along with a reverse assist function to help with parking. It also gets a colour LCD instrument cluster with smartphone connectivity via Yamaha’s mobile app, enabling access to ride data and vehicle information. Practicality is enhanced with around 24.5 litres of under-seat storage.
For hardware, the scooter features disc brakes at both ends with a combined braking system, telescopic front forks, and a rear coil spring suspension. Yamaha has also ensured high durability with IP67-rated battery and motor for water and dust resistance. Positioned in the premium electric scooter segment, the Yamaha EC-06 will compete with rivals such as the Ather Rizta, TVS iQube, and Bajaj Chetak in India’s fast-growing EV market.
