Carens Clavis EV Arrives: 7-Seater Electric MPV Priced at ₹17.99 Lakh

Kia has formally introduced the Carens Clavis EV, an all-electric seven-seater Multi-Purpose Vehicle (MPV) with an introductory price of ₹17.99 lakh (ex-showroom), significantly bolstering India’s expanding EV market. An intriguing addition to the Indian EV market, the Clavis EV is positioned as a family-friendly yet contemporary offering that blends eco-friendly mobility with spacious practicality.

A New Era of Family EVs

Kia introduces the Carens Clavis EV as India’s first mass-market seven-seater electric MPV. The brand designed it for large families who want to switch to electric. At the same time, it maintains comfort, space, and performance. Moreover, Kia built this MPV on its advanced E-GMP platform, specially tuned for family use. As a result, it supports both long drives and daily city travel with ease.

Performance and Range

The Carens Clavis EV will likely use a 60–70 kWh battery pack. It can deliver a claimed range of over 450 km on a single charge. Although Kia has not shared full specifications yet, fast-charging support is expected. With a DC fast charger, the battery can charge from 10% to 80% in under 45 minutes. Therefore, long trips become more convenient.

Design and Interiors

Kia gives the Clavis EV a modern and bold design. It features a closed front grille, sleek LED DRLs, and aerodynamic wheels. Inside, the cabin feels premium and spacious. It offers three rows of seating for families. In addition, it includes a large touchscreen, heated front seats, and wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. A fully digital instrument cluster further enhances the driving experience.

Technology and Safety

Kia equips the Clavis EV with several advanced features. It includes ADAS Level 2 for driver assistance. Along with that, the MPV gets six airbags as standard and a 360-degree camera. It also offers Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) support and OTA updates. Furthermore, Kia Connect enables smart connected car features.

Charging and Infrastructure Support

Kia plans to strengthen EV support with the Clavis launch. The company will offer a dedicated charging ecosystem. Customers will get free home charger installation. They will also have access to a wide public charging network. In addition, Kia will provide 24/7 roadside EV support across India.

Pricing and Variants

Kia will likely offer the Carens Clavis EV in multiple variants. The expected starting price is ₹17.99 lakh. Meanwhile, the top variant may go up to around ₹22 lakh. With this pricing, Kia aims to make it a practical EV choice for Indian families. It balances features, space, and affordability.

Competition in the Segment

With the Clavis EV, Kia sets a new benchmark in the 7-seater EV space. It will compete with upcoming models like the Mahindra XUV.e8 and Tata Avinya. At the same time, a future Hyundai 7-seater EV based on the Ioniq platform may also rival it. However, Kia’s pricing and practicality could give it an early advantage.
